AHEAD of the reopening of schools on August 4, the Delta State government has trained 5,697 teachers across the 25 local government areas of the state on COVID-19 protocols in the schools.

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, organized the training aimed at ensuring the safety of students against the coronavirus pandemic.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Patrick Ukah, said that the government was committed to protecting the health of residents, especially teachers and school children.

During a visit to St. Patrick’s College, Asaba, Oshimili South LGA, Ukah stressed the need to ascertain the level of commitment of teachers in the training, as the government is bent on averting the spread of the coronavirus in the schools in Delta.

He said government would supply hand washing buckets, liquid soap, hand sanitizers and face masks and sickbays would be installed for schools where none exists, while tanks of water would be supplied to schools without boreholes.

Ukah said that infrared thermometers would be given to schools and warned teachers to ensure that appropriate safety measures were adhered to at all times.
