PRO-Value Humanity Foundation (PHF), a non-profit organization has opened up centres for community service in various communities in different parts of Anambra State in its bid to engage the people as change agents.
At the inauguration of the centers in Awka, the state capital, the Founder and Chairman of PHF, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, said that the centers are structured to function as sources of information and to offer supportive services to residents of the state.
“The centers will also offer residents and indigenes of Anambra the opportunity to act as indispensable members of the community, while they can share their resources with others, develop skills and provide leadership abilities and become agents of social change,” Okonkwo said.
Speaking during the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Okonkwo had reminded the first group of volunteers that “community service is work done by a person or group of people that benefits other people and can, for example, be directed at any particular group of vulnerable people, like children, senior citizens, physically or mentally challenged people, and more.”
He clarified further that, the “efforts of the Foundation will lead to the transformation of the society to a point where community service will be performed for a variety of reasons including substitution of non-criminal justice sanctions and disciplinary measures in schools.
“Through a team of volunteers and staff partnership with community groups, the Center will be positioned to coordinate a range of activities such as delivering meals and gifts to patients at any local hospital, registering people to vote, teach computer skills to the elderly, and collecting trash at a public event in the community.”
An Executive Director of PHF, Chizoba Nnagbo said, “our volunteers will participate in community service because they enjoy helping other people and improving the community. They also recognize that volunteering can provide a healthy boost of confidence, self-esteem, and purposeful living.
“We provide social influencers, business managers and future leaders with quality training to develop their skills to be exceptional and change agents.”
