THE Women’s wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has advised youths in the state to shun violence and political acrimony during the forthcoming December local government polls.
The PDP Women Leader, Mrs Maria Mbakwe, while addressing newsmen Monday during a victory rally in Owerri, organised by the group to celebrate the victory of Governor Emeka Ihedioha at the election petition tribunal.
Mbakwe said that the upcoming council polls would provide an opportunity for youths in the state to demonstrate maturity through meaningful participation.
She decried the spate of election violence among the nation’s youths and urged Imo youths not to allow themselves to be used by power hungry politicians to disrupt the process.
According to her, the youths remained the direct beneficiaries of a credible electoral process and a credible election is an investment in the future of the youths.
She continued: “We must not sacrifice the future of our youths on the altar of electoral violence and malpractice.
“I therefore urge our youths not to allow anyone to use them to disrupt the process.
”The youths are the most vulnerable in this picture yet they are the most beneficiaries because a credible electoral process is an investment in their future since they stand to benefit from it in the long run.”
