THE Edo 2020 Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says its interest is in the conduct of free, fair, credible and polls in the state, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement on Saturday, the Chairman of the PDP campaign council, Chief Dan Orbih, stated that the Council would not be dragged into the narrative in the media on the appointment of a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the state by INEC.
He stated that the Council recognises that INEC has the right to appoint officials cleared by the National Assembly to conduct elections.
In that regard, the electoral commission will take responsibility for successes or failures of elections, “and expectedly we are watching with keen interest, steps taken by INEC in preparation for the Edo 2020 polls.”
The chairman noted that the party’s governorship candidate and state governor, Godwin Obaseki, “has been recieved with enthusiasm in all the 126 wards and in all stops, he has preached non violence.
“Edo people must not be scared or intimidated by the narrative of violence.”
He called on the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Muhammed to ensure that enough policemen were deployed to the state to protect voters.
According to him, Edo 2020 ought to free of violence and unleashing violence on the electorate would not save any situation, as he called on various political actors to show their score cards and what they would do for the people. (NAN)
