THE Police in Eke-Aba division, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital have rescued a woman, whose husband chained to a pillar inside their matrimonial home.

The husband, identified as Uche Chukwuani, chained his wife, Mrs Ngozi inside their home at No. 1 Ike Street, Abakaliki for 18 hours. He fled thereafter to an unknown destination.

Special Assistant on Security and Utility, Capital City, Mr. Saint Nchekwube Anakor, explained to journalists on Monday how  the victim was rescued.

The governor’s aide said: “We burst onto a scene at No 1 Ike Street Abakaliki, where one Mr Uche Chukwuani chained his wife to a pillar in their building and ran away with the key of the padlock.

“Thanks to the Ekeaba Police Division whose timely response saved the situation. I had to bring a welder who cut the chain.

“The question was: what did this woman, who has children with her husband, do that she would be chained like a dog by her husband? What ever transpired, does it warrant such dehumanization?

“Nobody has the right to chain or tie any human being, because it is against the law.

“Presently, the man is on the run, but I wonder how long he would be on the run, because we must catch him. I thank the residents of that area for giving us timely information.

“I advise people to be wary of their actions; ignorance is not an excuse in law.

“The neighborhood watch are stationed in every part of the town protecting our areas.”

The State Police Spokesman, DSP Loveth Odah, could not be reached on telephone.
