PRINCE Arthur Eze has tasked South East politicians to look inwards to find the reason for their failure to make a credible run for the presidency rather than looking to the North or South West for scapegoats.
At the commissioning of the Zone 13 headquarters of the Nigerian Police Force at Ukpo, Anambra State, on Wednesday, astute businessman and oil mogul, Chief Arthur Eze, Uzoigbondu 1 of Ukpo said that the Igbo have never been united in pursuing the collective interest of the South East zone.
According to him, “Igbo people are enemies to themselves. It is not about the North or any other people. When I was making the effort for the actualisation of Zone 13 headquarters in Anambra, I did not get the needed cooperation from Igbo stakeholders. Many thought I was doing it for my selfish interest. What do I need it for if not for our collective interest?
“The same thing is applicable to the quest of the Igbo for the presidency. Some people are agitating for 2023 presidency; but when the time comes, some stakeholders will sing discordant tunes.
“Some of us will be begging for the vice presidential slot. We must be united as Igbo people, if we want to take our pride of place in this bigger entity called Nigeria.”
A deputy inspector general (DIG) Celestine Chibeze Okoye, who represented the Inspector General of Policeman, (IGP) Muhammad Adamu, congratulated Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi states for actualising the dream of a separate zonal headquarters, which he said is for the benefit of the people of the affected states.
He said: “The IG is happy that this long awaited day. He is grateful to the people and government of Anambra in particular; especially Prince Arthur Eze, through whom the dream was actualised.
“It is the desire of the Police that the people of the zone will give their maximum cooperation so that the new zone will succeed.”
The new AIG in charge of Zone 13, Danmallam Mohammad, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and Adamu for finding him worthy to become pioneer AIG of the zone. He pledged his best for the overall benefit of the people of the affected sates.
In his address, the traditional ruler of Ukpo, Igwe Robert Eze, said that the new headquarters constitutes a quantum leap and a milestone in the developmental efforts of the community.
He commended Prince Arthur Eze and all those who made the event possible for making funds available and the complex suitable for use.
