PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has welcomed the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), after the expiration of the term of the board members appointed in 2016.
In a statement in Abuja Saturday, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, noted that
members of the new Board are: Mohammed Lawal (North West), Tajudeen Umar (North East), Adamu Mahmood Attah (North Central), Senator Magnus Abe (South South), Dr Stephen Dike (South East), and Chief Pius Akinyelure (South West).
”The new board will be in place for three years.”
In another development, the Group Managing Director of the Corporation Malam Mele Kari, disclosed the death of his predecessor in the Corporation, Dr Maikanti Baru, on his Twitter handle @MMkyari on Saturday in Abuja
Kari stated: “my brother, friend and mentor, Dr Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night. He was of exemplary character and disposition. May Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him.”
In a short statement, the Corporation’s spokesman, Dr Kennie Obateru confirmed the death and stated: “The NNPC regrets to announce the demise of its former GMD, Dr Maikanti Kacalla Baru, Friday night.
Baru, a Mechanical Engineer, was the 18th GMD of the Corporation. Aged 60, he was at the helm of the Corporation for three years, from July 4, 2016 to July 7, 2019.
