ANXIETY has gripped top government officials in Anambra State when it was confirmed that the state governor, Willie Obiano had been in self isolation amidst concerns that he might have contracted coronavirus.
The fears stem the realization that the Governor was suspected to have been in close contact with the Bauchi State governor during a recent NEC meeting held at the Federal Capital Territory.
The Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed had come out to announce thst he had tested positive to Covid-19.
In an address to journalists in Awka on Monday, by the government officials, the Chief of Staff, Primus Odili and the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG), Prof Solo Chukwudobelu said that the governor has been in isolation for the past 11 days.
They emphasized that the governor opted to go into self isolation
following his suspected contact with Mohammed.
They added that “we are aware that of the sitting arrangement at the meeting, and this arrangement usually observe social distancing. The fact that one is in a hall with a man who has the disease does not mean that one is infected or can be infected.
“The governor is a very enlightened person, and because he knows he has been in a meeting with such calibre of people, he decided to go into self-quarantine.
“Obiano is officially on self-quarantine. I have not seen him for the past one week, and we only talk on phone. We had two hours meeting yesterday (Sunday) using Zoom. There are no fears about his health at all.”
They however called for calm saying that the governor is stable, hale and hearty and has not developed any form of symptom since then.
Meanwhile the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C-Don Adinuba, in a statement, pointed out “Obiano, considers it imperative that the Federal Government provides at least N1bn to Anambra, which is at risk in view of the multitude of people in its numerous markets” as the state is bound to lose a lot economically following the shutting down of markets.
