THE Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly has announced an indefinite suspension of legislative proceedings in compliance with the directives of the state Governor Willie Obiano in the fight against coronavirus.
Explaining the decision, the Speaker, Uche Okafor told journalists at the state assembly complex, Awka, that unless the Executive directs otherwise, the lawmakers will only reconvene under extreme situations, where only 10 members of the House can converge to treat any matter.
He said that in the meantime, “all of us are going back to our constituencies to sensitise our people on this disease so that the people will take precautionary measures.”
Meanwhile, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has reassured the people of the state, that the coronavirus, could be defeated if only people obeyed all directives and take all precautionary protocols.

In a statement in Umuahia, Wednesday, Orji urged residents of the state to strictly follow the protocols set up by the state government in the fight against the coronavirus.
The Speaker emphasised that fighting the scourge requires the cooperation of everyone.
Insisting that the coronavirus can only be defeated he said “this is not a death sentence, do not panic. Everyone should do what is needed to prevent the virus from afflicting our state. By God’s grace and with everyone’s cooperation, we will defeat the virus.”
“At the House of Assembly, we have followed up with the procedures put in place by the state government and are satisfied with them. Others should ensure they play by the rules.
