THE Supreme Court nullification of the election of former deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Emeka Ihedioha, and the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2019 polls in Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinnma winner of the polls, might be a victory of sorts for Rev Fr. Ejike Mbaka.
On Tuesday in Abuja, the seven-man panel of the Supreme Court in a unanimous decision held that Ihedioha did not win the majority of votes cast at the March 9 governorship election.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return (CO) issued to Ihedioha and issue a fresh one to Uzodinnma having won the majority of lawful votes cast at the election.
The court held that the lower courts erred in law when they rejected evidence tendered before them to the extent that votes from 388 polling units were not credited to the APC and Uzodinma.
The INEC results after the polls showed that Ihedioha, scored 273,404 votes; Uche Nwosu of Action Alliance (AA) had 190,364 votes; Ifeanyi Ararume of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) polled 114,676 votes while Uzodinma secured 96,458 votes.
Rev Mbaka Vindicated
On December 31, 2019, during his Passover Night prophesies Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministries, Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), prophesied that the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, would be replaced by the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate at the 2019 election, Senator Hope Uzodinma.
His congregation was shocked just as Ihedioha and his supporters attacked the controversy courting Priest.
Mbaka had declared: “In Imo, there is hope. Hope, hope, hope … hope in Imo! Imo people have suffered (but) God is raising a new hope that would be an agent of salvation for them.
“He is coming with a new flag to restore the dignity of that noble land. A new leadership that will break barriers and there would be joy in the land of Imo.
“Lift your candles as I bless Hope Uzodinma. I empower him, spiritually, to take over. How? I do not know.”
Ihedioha noted that he was perturbed by Mbaka’s prophesy and urged his supporters to disregard the prophecy.
Mbaka, who alleged that Ihedioha had instigated people to attack him over the prophecy asked what would the attacks achieve.
He said, “if you don’t like (this) message, do not fight me because, if you do, the God of Moses, Elijah and Elisha will come after you. I am only a messenger of God.
“Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar tried this kind of war but where are they now? Jonathan tried it, but where is he now?”
The fiery priest had asked further: “Why would Ihedioha try to invite crisis and trouble upon himself? Must you be the governor of Imo? What qualifies you more than Uzodinma? Why shouldn’t you allow the Holy Spirit to speak for the first time (about Imo). If you control your state, would you control heaven?
“If the Holy Spirit says that Ihedioha would go and that Uzodinma would take over, am I Uzodinma? Am I going to Imo? Am I a politician? This is the only age where and when a prophet would speak and people will begin to attack him.
“Ihedioha won at the tribunal and and at the Appeal Court. Naturally, he should win at the Supreme Court.
“But if the Holy Spirit says, ‘Ihedioha, come down,’ he should better begin to pack his property! And wherever Uzodinma is, he should begin to get himself ready to take the mantle of leadership in Imo.
“If what I do is about money, I would probably ask Ihedioha to give me N10 million so that I would tell the people that he would continue to be governor. It is not money issue!”
