VSO applauds Ugwuanyi on peace, security, good governance

ENUGU State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has been commended for enhancing business activities in the state by creating an enabling environment for peace and security to thrive.

An international organization, Volunteer Service Overseas (VSO), made the commendation Thursday, at the state Government House, when its members visited the governor.  

The organization’s head of programme, Regina Afiono, who led the visiting  team noted that the peaceful atmosphere in Enugu and its secure environment informed their choice of the state as a place of assignment.

Afiono expressed delight that, “Enugu State is very outstanding in terms of security. Our choice of places where we will work is a painstaking exercise based on research and among other things, security is topmost, because our workers have to be secured.”

The programme head disclosed that the group was scheduled to visit Ibagwa Nike and Umuchigbo in the Enugu East Local Government Area of the state to assist the people especially the youths, in the areas of health and education.

She added that their programmes were basically on inclusive education and livelihood with emphasis on the vulnerable people of the society who, according to her, are deprived of basic essentials of life.

Afiono explained further that the organization has in the last 10 years carried out activities in Kwara State and other parts of the country.

The deputy governor Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, who received the members of the delegation to the Government House, Enugu, on behalf of the state governor, Ugwuanyi, described the body’s activities as noble ventures that are endearing to the state administration.

According to her, the programmes of the organization “are in line with the policy thrust of the administration, which is to touches the lives and wellbeing of the youths.”

The deputy governor reiterated the commitment of the state government to the success of the organization through the provision of adequate security for the people of the state including their staff.

She said that she was optimistic that their stay in South East, and in Enugu in particular will be fruitful as she was confident in their ability to cover more communities as the programme progresses.

She assured that relevant ministries and agencies will be working with them to ensure the sustenance of the established relationship.

Ezeilo reassured the team that, “Enugu remains the safest state in Nigeria. Despite that, we shall take a closer look at the security situation around the Ibagwa Nike and Umuchigbo, the place of your activities to ensure that you enjoy your stay and work in Enugu.”
