FORMER Minister of Information and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Prince Tony Momoh, has called on the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar to emulate former president, Jonathan Goodluck, accept defeat and congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in the February 23 election.
According to Momoh, “That will make him not just a national figure like Jonathan, but also an international figure.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Momoh advised Atiku not to go to court to challenge “the will of the people,” but to congratulate Buhari like Jonathan did in 2015.
Momoh noted that, “the singular act made Jonathan an instant hero. Atiku could earn the same status if he allows national interest to rise above his personal ambition.
“A beautiful thing happened shortly after the election results were announced in the 2015. Jonathan called Buhari, the winner and congratulated him.
“Therefore, I will call on Atiku to call Buhari and congratulate him.”
Momoh, who went to the courts with Buhari in 2003, 2007 and 2011 to challenge election results, advised Atiku to shun the option of going to court, “because time will tell if he will get any reckoning after doing so,” noting that, “I believe the outcome of the election reflected the wishes of the people.”
